FlightSafety trains KC-10 crew members and operates two Weapon System Trainers (full-motion flight simulators), one Flight Training Device (non-motion flight simulator) and one Boom Operator Flight Trainer at both Travis and McGuire Air Force Bases under a nine-year Government contract.
The KC-10A Extender entered service in 1981 as a modified McDonnell-Douglas DC10.
The current fleet of 59 KC-10A's is uniquely suited for both the air refueling and airlift missions.
The Extender is capable of both taking on fuel as a receiver aircraft and off-loading fuel as a traditional aerial tanker.
