Dana grew up in East Texas and began working at the age of five, milking cows and hauling hay with his father.
By age seven, he had no doubt that milking cows was not for him - he was going to need a career change.
In 2003, Dana began his career in real estate as a land surveyor.
In 2003, he moved to Tyler and earned his degree in Surveying and Mapping from Tyler Junior College and The University of Texas at Tyler.
While in college, he worked as a landman in East Texas.
As a landman, he ran title, negotiated oil and gas leases, and managed oil and gas properties from central Louisiana to eastern New Mexico and throughout the state of Texas for some of the largest firms in the country.
