Along the curving, scenic St. Johns River resides Jacksonville, Florida, the largest city (in terms of land area) in the United States.
Nicknamed Jax by locals, the city and its lively waterfront offer access to boat cruises, riverfront boardwalks and fishing.
Located on opposite shores are the restaurant and bar scenes of Jacksonville Landing and Southbank Riverwalk.
The nearby Jacksonville beaches reign supreme for fishing, swimming, snorkeling and sailing - at least from March to November.
Four beach communities are situated 20 minutes from downtown, each with its own unique personality.
Get a tan, catch a wave on a boogie board, or have a picnic on the beach.
For just $1 dollar (children under 6 are free!) take a walk down the Jacksonville Beach Fishing Pier, where local anglers reel in catches amidst stunning ocean views.
At night, grab a blanket and head to the Sea Walk Pavilion on Jacksonville Beach for movies and music.
Summer events include the Moonlight Movies Series and Summer Jazz concert series.
Cap off the day with a pint from Jax Beach's local breweries Green Room Brewery and Engine 15 Brewing Co. or a beachy cocktail at Nipper's Beach Grille.
Located in Northeast Florida, Atlantic Beach claims miles of laid-back beaches and close proximity to excellent golf, parks and the big-city energy of Jacksonville.
It also shimmers with history, the site of what many experts believe was the first year-round Native American settlement in North America.
Now, the visitor finds houses and condos, a few hideaway hotels and a commercial strip or two, because everyone needs necessities from time to time.
Also be sure to visit Hannah Park, a magnet for surfers, beachcombers, campers and bicyclists along Atlantic Beach's northern border, a place that keeps a bit of Old Florida alive.
The City of Neptune Beach, a small, quiet coastal community nestled on the northeast coast of Florida between Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Beach.
Neptune Beach has a comfortable, casual and laid-back atmosphere that causes people of all ages to flock here to enjoy the beach.
The hard-packed sand is great for cycling and the surf is super for the avid surfer.
If you're an early bird, catch the sun rising above the ocean, it's a site to behold.
The inviting, pedestrian friendly area offers many boutiques, fitness centers, restaurants and two oceanfront hotels in close proximity - a destination appealing for both tourists and locals!
