Founded in 1976 by James H. McLeod, McLeod and Associates, Inc. began under the name The McLeod Company/Realtors. The business was founded as a Real Estate Brokerage firm and was originally located downtown Camden on Rutledge St, making McLeod and Associates, Inc. the second oldest continually operating real estate firm in Kershaw County. As the business developed, Jim found a niche working as an Appraiser of Real Estate, and McLeod and Associates became a full service Real Estate Brokerage Firm.

Beginning in the early 1980's, Jim specialized in Real Estate Appraisal and Consulting while continuing over the years to assist clients with marketing and purchasing Real Estate. He was active in all levels of the Realtor organization, serving as 1988 President of the South Carolina Association of Realtors after holding many offices and chairs in the organization.

Jim was joined by his wife Jo McLeod in the business in 1990 and she joined him in both the Appraisal and General Brokerage areas of the business.
