Services
Claussen Walters had its start back in the 1980's in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
We, the eponymous founders, Barbara Claussen and Tony Walters, brought a fresh and lively approach to the there-to-fore mundane business of real estate.
We always did things differently because we saw things differently and became known as the innovators within our industry.
In 2013, driven by a great weariness of Canadian winters, we began our plans to relocate ourselves, together with the furry entourage of Whinny Hill Farm, to the sunny Foothills of North Carolina, just down the mountain from Tony's hometown of Hendersonville.
An exciting new chapter in our area's nearly 100-year equestrian tradition began in 2014 with the development of the world-class Tryon International Equestrian Center, the ultimate international destination for all who love horses, outdoor living and an active lifestyle.
Added over summer 2014 were a Grand Prix ring with permanent seating for 4,500, one of the world's largest covered arenas, and a hand-painted Venetian carousel.
Five show rings were named for renowned equestrians with Tryon ties, including the George H. Morris International Arena, which honors the Olympic medalist and coaching legend who participated in Tryon's Olympic Team Trials in the 1950s.
How did the Tryon area become nationally and even internationally known as a center for equestrian sports?
It was no accident.
Starting nearly 100 years ago, wealthy industrialists and sportsmen from the Midwest discovered Tryon.
They realized that its climate, rural character and scenic beauty made it a perfect seasonal center for the equestrian pursuits they enjoyed.
First among this group was Carter Brown, who visited in 1917.
A year later he bought a former tuberculosis sanitarium that he remade into the Pine Crest Inn, complete with riding stables.
Green River Adventures, a tourism-based guide service, launched The Gorge, the steepest, fastest canopy tour in the country.
If you are looking for a high-adventure, heart-pumping whitewater experience, this is it!
One of the steepest commercially run sections of whitewater in the Southeast, the Upper Green consists of continuous Class II-III rapids and two Class IV's.
They are the only company to run trips on this beautiful wilderness section of the Green River, so get away from the crowds and experience something worth writing home about!
Visit the Blue Ridge Mountains and you'll find tranquility nestled in the valleys between North and South Carolina.
The communities of Tryon, Saluda, Columbus, NC as well as Landrum, SC are inviting places for residents and visitors to experience local culture and explore artisan shops and restaurants.
The timeless estates and equestrian farms of the foothills are an ideal place to settle for those seeking beautiful mountain views.
Saluda, one of the communities on the county's western border, has long enjoyed fame as a vacation area and place of retirement.
