For more than a century, the Gray family has enjoyed a strong reputation in the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the Southeast for its high quality lumber operation and extensive timberland holdings.
In 1992, in an effort to diversify its investments, the family elected to exchange a large portion of its timberland for commercial real estate and form an in-house management team, the predecessor to today's GrayCo, to oversee the reinvestment process and provide ongoing asset management.
Since 1992, our investment strategy has been refined to focus primarily on high-end apartments and our operating strategy has evolved to include a property management team responsible for all GrayCo communities.

With our senior executives averaging over 20 years of industry experience, GrayCo's management team possesses extensive apartment investment and management experience as well as expertise in timberland management and land development.
This specific knowledge base is enhanced by our broad range of business expertise developed from backgrounds in investment banking, commercial banking, transaction structuring, property operations, legal, accounting and asset management.
Importantly, most of our senior executive team has had extensive involvement with the Company since the inception of our commercial real estate asset management business in the early 1990's.

The Company seeks to generate strong risk-adjusted investment returns primarily through the acquisition, development and management of apartment properties throughout the major markets of the Southeast.
Our target investments are high-end apartment properties with comprehensive amenity packages and spacious units having up to date floor plans and interior features providing our residents with an excellent residential experience.
A critical component of that experience is the hands-on, resident-oriented property management services provided by GrayCo Properties, our property management organization.
