REALTORS established their Code of Ethics in 1913 and it has survived as a viable and relevant guide because it is a living document.
As times have changed, new needs and insights have been recognized and as the law has developed, the Code has been amended as necessary to keep pace with the changing real estate profession.
With all the amendments, the philosophical premise of the code has remained unchanged in promoting the highest level of integrity and fair business practices.
The Code of Ethics offers to REALTORS the lessons of hindsight, the guidance of foresight and the understanding of insight - A Rare Gift of Vision.
AFFILIATE: Meeting multiple times per year, this committee shall host professional development events creating a platform for REALTOR engagement.
CARE (Community Outreach): Responsible for fundraising funds that are spent/donated by the Board for community service projects and programs - they also recommend to the Board of Directors how the money should be dispersed.
In addition, they are involved in the organization and tasking of "hands-on" projects or other tasks as the committee deems appropriate, with proper approval.
Federal Antitrust laws prohibit agreements or understandings between two or more individuals or businesses to regulate prices or quantities of goods and services, to allocate customers or territories, to hinder or limit a competitor or potential competitor's operations, or otherwise unreasonably to restrain business activity.
Discriminatory pricing or servicing is also prohibited.
Every individual who participates in Cecil County Board of REALTORS' Committee meetings, events, and activities or who comment or post on our social media sites should follow these guidelines.
If you believe that a REALTOR has violated one or more Articles of the Code of Ethics, you should consider filing an ethics complaint alleging the violation(s) through any local board or association of REALTORS where the REALTOR holds membership.
In addition, REALTORS agree, as a condition of membership, to arbitrate contractual disputes and specific non-contractual disputes as provided for in Article 17 of the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) Code of Ethics.
Below are several resources to help you understand what an ethics complaint and arbitration request entails, and the general process you can expect when filing an ethics complaint or arbitration request with a local board or association of REALTORS.
