Hartwell Lake is one of the Southeast's largest and most popular lakes.
The Army Corp of Engineers created the lake by building the Hartwell Dam and impounding the Savannah River and its major contributors, the Seneca and Tugaloo River basins.
The lake is approximately 56 miles long and comprises over 55000 acres of water and nearly 1000 miles of shoreline.
The lake forms the state boundary between Georgia and South Carolina along the western side of the lake, Interstate 85 bisects the lake and provides easy access for visitors and full-time residents.
Lake Keowee is a man made reservoir located in Pickens and Oconee Counties in northern South Carolina near Seneca and Clemson.
It was built by Duke Energy in the early 1970's to serve power generation needs and public recreational purposes.
The lake is approximately 26 miles long with 300 miles of shoreline and covers 18,372 acres at normal pool.
The lake was formed by impounding the waters of the Keowee and Little River basins, it flows into Seneca River basin of Lake Hartwell.
The lake is known for its emerald green waters, mountain views, fishing and all water sports.
Lake Russell or officially Richard B. Russell Lake, named after US Senator Richard Brevard Russell Jr., is a reservoir built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the late 1970s and early 80s.
The lake is fed by the Savannah River, Beaverdam Creek on the Georgia side and Rocky River on the South Carolina side.
From a real estate point of view, the lake is very much different from Lake Hartwell in the north and Lake Thurmond in the south since government regulations prohibit private use of the public lands surrounding Lake Russell.
